Maybe you are a young person, not currently in education, training or employment or you have been out of work for a while and are looking to improve your chances of re-entering the labour market. Perhaps you want to try your hand at something else or learn new skills. We have a range of structured and informal learning opportunities from introduction to professional cookery, to healthy eating on a budget, to accredited food hygiene training courses. There are also work experience opportunities in the community cafe or in one of our Pop Ups. If you are in Medway and looking for a new start or some inspiration please drop us a line and we can talk through the options.
One of our experienced chefs will take you through a ten week course covering aspects of the profession from working safely in the kitchen and food safety, knife skills, vegetable prep, pastry work and baking, preparing and cooking meat and fish and plating and presentation of a dish.
These are informal and friendly cookery sessions facilitated by one of our chefs. These courses are much more focussed on healthy eating, feeding a family or individual on a budget and ideas for widening your cooking. No experience of cooking is required and groups often eat together at the end of the course or take food home.
We can offer time limited work experience in the community cafe, with opportunities sometimes available to help out on Pop Ups and Community Food events. Generally we recommend that work experience placements are one day a week for 6 weeks with time spent in the kitchen and front of house. All of these opportunities can be combined with accredited Level 2 Food Hygiene Training.
