News roundup 2015

December 23rd, 2015

2015 has been a fabulous year for Café Sunlight, and so having been too busy to update our news section, it now seems like an appropriate time to reflect on the past 12 months, and thank the customers, venues and team who have made the year such a success. 2015 was the year that Café Sunlight became an eligible caterer for City of London Corporation events at the Guildhall. Cafe Sunlight also became an approved supplier to the Coin Street venues; Bargehouse & Oxo Gallery on the South Bank. We were very honoured to Cater for the 70th anniversary celebrations for CARE International, and for Artists Drawing a Line Under Torture – a private view and art auction in support of Freedom from Torture. The team served up beer brewed by fellow Social Entrepreneurs Two Fingers to one of the largest and most successful Social Enterprises, HCT Group. Other corporate clients included Matrix Chambers and Telereal Trillium, and the DCLG. We served up canapés & drinks at the Guildhall, Rochester and the National Centre for Circus Arts, Hoxton and lunches at Conway Hall, Red Lion Square. The team always love weddings and were delighted and honoured to cater for Sepi and Chris in September at their beautiful venue in Worth, Kent. Meanwhile back at the Sunlight Centre the community cafe continued to provide volunteering and training opportunities, as well as a warm welcome and a healthy, homemade meal or snack. Now serving coffee roasted at the Old Spike Roastery, Peckham that supports homeless people into employment and housing.

“I would like to pass on a huge thank you to the team at Café Sunlight for catering our 30th anniversary Private View & Art Auction in London. Sam and his team were attentive, helpful and professional and went above and beyond to ensure our event would run as smoothly as possible, whilst providing a delicious selection of canapés and excellent service. Sam was supportive, friendly and uncompromising in providing the highest standard customer service and quality food to suit our budget and it has been an absolute pleasure working him. We will definitely stay in touch for future events. Thank you!” Samuel Morton, Events Fundraiser, Freedom from Torture

“HCT Group aims to work with fellow social enterprises wherever we can, which is why we were delighted to choose Café Sunlight to provide the catering for our Social Impact Report Launch. Café Sunlight did a great job, with good food and good service – all in all helping us to create a great event.” Frank Villeneuve-Smith, Communications Director.

Cafe Sunlight CIC is an eligible caterer for City of London Corporation events at the Guildhall

March 31st, 2015

Café Sunlight CIC has been awarded eligible caterer status for City of London Corporation events at the Guildhall as of 1st January 2015.  The social enterprise, which is based in the Sunlight Centre in Gillingham, was introduced to the City Corporation back in November 2011 where they were asked by the Social Enterprise Mark to cater for a breakfast briefing at the Launch of their 50in250 campaign.

Paul Clark, chair of Café Sunlight CIC said “the Social Enterprise Mark helps corporate and private customers quickly ascertain that our business is a certified social enterprise. The Mark, through initiatives such as the 50in250 campaign helps to raise the profile of the Social Enterprise sector. Over the past 18 months within our business alone we can identify something in the region of £35,000 worth of business that is directly or indirectly attributable to the mark.”

Café Sunlight has had a great start to the year.  The team were catering at Guildhall in January for a canapé and drinks reception where guests enjoyed some of our favourite canapés, including mini shepherds’ pies, parmesan shortbread with honey roasted cherry tomatoes and feta, and aubergine & mint bruschetta.  Other events included a 10 year celebration dinner at Guildhall and a breakfast where we were proud to serve delicious Kentish organic produce from Chegworth Valley farm as well as Audrey’s famous homemade breakfast muffins.  The team have also been up at the National Centre for Circus Arts in March for the launch of the Arts Impact Fund where we served up some new canapés, including ginger & lime chicken skewers which were very popular.

Inspiration for autumn and winter 2014

Summer 2014

September 29th, 2014

We kicked the summer off with canapés and drinks at the Guildhall for the launch of the Buy Social Directory, followed by Charity Bank’s annual open day on June 10th at London’s Living Room, with panoramic views of the London skyline and finished the summer with a trip to Oxford Town Hall in September for a graduation ceremony and reception.  A kitchen redesign created much more fridge space and additional prep areas; we took delivery of a new refrigerated van, thanks to a grant from the Clothworkers foundation, which will make deliveries to venues more cost effective, and a new volunteer programme funded with a grant from Awards for All is open to applications.  Check back soon for our autumn update and winter menus….

Bridging the Gap to Success conference, Monday 10 March 2014

March 14th, 2014

Café Sunlight was delighted to be asked to cater for 230 young people and 80 business volunteers at The Guildhall for the Bridging the Gap to Success Conference. The aim of the day was to help break down the barriers between vulnerable young people and the world of work. The ‘Bridging the Gap to Success’ conference is managed by Business in the Community through its Business Class programme, in partnership with City of London, UBS and social enterprise, Humanutopia. Delegates enjoyed homemade breakfast muffins, pastries and a sandwich lunch with lots and lots of fresh fruit – and we even made a couple of contacts with young people interested in the catering industry and in social enterprise.
